Phebalium squameum ‘Illumination’ (Satinwood)

Also known as Nematolepis squamea ‘Variegata’. Quick growing tall narrow tree that is outstanding for shelter. The aromatic, olive-like leaves are long and narrow, attractive yellow and green variegation and silvery white underneath. The small, cream flowers appear in spring. Great for hedging or as a specimen in a small garden. It is a very hardy and wind resistant specimen. Grows approximately 4m high x 3m wide in 10 years.

Will not grow in heavy or wet soils, must be well drained. Requires very little side trimming as a shelter hedge. Tolerant of wind, coastal sites, and dry periods once established. Frost tender when young, and best in sites without hard frosts.
