Rheum rhabarbarum ‘Winter Wonder’

Low spreading ornamental plant to size of 1m. Highly decorative, dense, green, sculptured leaves. Stems are green in summer and vivid red in winter. Excellent for harvesting in winter, but can be harvested year round. Young stems can be eaten raw. Otherwise cook with sugar, stewed and made into crumbles and pies. One of the lowest calorie foods. Contains large amounts of calcium, potassium and B1.

Plant in full sun, working in plenty of organic material and moisture. Remove old stems to keep the plant clean. Feed in spring an late summer. Remove any flowers as they appear. Very cold tolerant. Stands up to light snow, frosts and strong winds.
