Protea cynaroides – King Protea
A large, spreading shrub producing large, terminal, soft pink flower heads on medium-long stems. Flowers of the King Protea are quite stunning, usually produced from winter though spring and early summer. Size of 2m tall x 2.5m spread.
An adaptable Protea that will grow in most well drained, acidic soils in an open, sunny position. Prune back after main summer flush to encourage prosperous flower production the following year. Ensure newly planted plants receive deep weekly watering during periods of prolonged drought. Mild frost tolerance once established. Suitable for coastal conditions.
