Pyrus pyrifolia ‘Nijisseiki’ (Nashi Pear, Asian Pear)
Medium-sized, round fruit with pale green skin. Flesh is creamy white, very juicy, sweet and crisp with a refreshing tartness. Mid-season harvest in February/March. Best eaten fresh. ‘Nijisseiki’ is a self-fertile variety and a good pollinator for other nashi and pears. Forms an attractive tree with large leaves. Good for espalier training. Grows approximately 6m high x 4m wide.
Prefers a sunny and sheltered position in moist, well drained soil. Water well during dry periods and while fruit is developing. Nashis grow best in cooler climates with mild summers.
