Feijoa Takaka
$68.99
Feijoa sellowiana ‘Takaka’
A wonderful variety of Feijoa to grow in more marginal-cooler regions with good fruit set. Hardy and vigorous grower. Large, dark green leaves with silvery undersides and a mass of brilliant red, Pohutukawa-like flowers in summer. Feijoa are very adaptable and make excellent choices for screening and hedges. Grows approximately 4m high x 3m wide in 10 years. Evergreen.
An exciting early bearer with sizeable, large fruit that have a delicious tropical flavour. Ripening in autumn. Partially self fertile but fruit set will greatly increase and be more reliable when planted with a Feijoa of another variety to cross-pollinate. Brilliant source of vitamin C and dietary fibre.
Plant all year round in fertile, well drained soil with plenty of organic matter in a full sun position. Mulch after planting to support a healthy root system. Frost and drought tolerant. Performs best in average-drier soils with moisture during fruit development, but will tolerate periods of quite wet conditions. Fertilise in late winter.
