Feijoa sellowiana ‘Sherbet’

A particularly strong and vigorous Feijoa with wonderful productivity. Large, dark green leaves with silvery undersides and a mass of brilliant red, Pohutukawa-like flowers in summer. Feijoa are very adaptable and make excellent choices for screening and hedges. Grows approximately 4m high x 3m wide in 10 years. Evergreen.

Produces an excess of large-sized fruit with soft, white flesh. Flavour is a good sharp, sherbet sort of flavour with less sweetness than other varieties. Earliest fruiting Feijoa available – harvest from early March. Best planted with other early flowering varieties such as ‘Takaka’ or ‘Unique’ for cross-pollination. Brilliant source of vitamin C and dietary fibre.

Plant all year round in fertile, well drained soil with plenty of organic matter in a full sun position. Mulch after planting to support a healthy root system. Frost and drought tolerant. Performs best in average-drier soils with moisture during fruit development, but will tolerate periods of quite wet conditions. Fertilise in late winter.
