School Vege Challenge 2022

Harvest Time & Judging

Mid Challenge Update

There is lots of pride, planning and thought behind the school vegetable garden at Girls College. They have reconfigured and set up their garden bed from Eastown Timber into a star shape.

The schools core values make the acronym ‘ASTRA’ which is Latin for ‘To the Stars’ so the well thought out design is to align with this.

A further notable feature of the garden is pictorial plant labels painted onto rocks and placed beside the appropriate vegetables.

Led by Jane Williams a team of girls have got lots of vegetables really growing well. They are progressing with plans to grow more seedlings and have a greenhouse on order which will give more learning opportunities.

I’m looking forward to seeing the garden again in a couple of months.

Getting Going

Our garden was a focus in 2021 and will continue to be a focus for 2022. We have spare room that is not currently planted and have been wondering what we might do with it. The School Vege Challenge gives us a perfect opportunity for the students who are interested in gardening, to learn and develop more of their skills. There are already a keen group of students.

We are hoping to get the students more involved in our vege gardens. We are an Enviroschool too so that will fit perfectly. We have attempted a form of vege gardening before but having the competition will help our students focus on this more.
