Harvest Time & Judging
Wow, these guys have an amazing setup! Complete with two polytunnels, a few garden beds, and an amazing area for the planting of native trees to encourage bird life. They’ve even got a kumara pit which was harvested just before I (Brydie, Springvale Garden Centre) visited. The children were very excited about the process and started to harvest the garden. They were a little over-eager and pulled a few plants that weren’t ready for picking yet. (Try again next time!) I loved all of the questions they had for me and showing me what they had grown. An admirable team and group of children with clear passion for the garden and outdoors.
Getting Going
We have actively been working to establish a māra kai. We hope to use this opportunity to seek further support as we are still in the learning process ourselves.
