School Gardening Partnership 2024

“We aim to provide opportunities for hands-on learning, inquiry, observation and experimentation across our curriculum. Moving our students to eat and love fruits and vegetables while supplying them with fresh produce.”

School Vege Challenge 2022

Harvest Time & Judging

Mid Challenge Update

The team at Rutherford are organised and dedicated. They regularly attend their extensive garden areas. They take time to sow seeds as well as planting out what they have previously sown. They have recently installed irrigation which ensures the garden is well watered which helps significantly with plant health and growth. The produce goes to the cooking class where students are learning not only culinary skills but also where their food comes from and are able to grow it themselves.

Students are included and accommodated, regardless of their capabilities, exhibited by the stone path improving access. Matthew, in his wheelchair, is incredibly dedicated and a great gardener. The garden is now practising composting and is looking to develop these processes.

Getting Going

Our students were excited to receive the starter kit from the Springvale Garden Centre team. Here are some of their reactions:

“More plants!”

“Can’t wait to start our new garden!”

“We already know how to grow plants, we’re going to win!”
