School Gardening Challenge 2024
“We would love to be part of this journey. I have some made keen gardeners in my class who absolutely love spending time in our school garden. I’ve found having kids out in the garden very soothing and relaxing for their mindset.
I went and brought more garden supplies over the weekend for the students and they have great ideas about what they would like to make and create in the garden this year. We have a lot of students who are very hungry by lunchtime so our aim is to create a garden big enough to feed our school at lunchtime!”
Hunterville School requested a starter pack containing the following;
– Eastown Timber Vegetable Box
– Tui Vegetable Mix
– Feijoa and Passionfruit plants

Mid Challenge Update
An update on our vege challenge to show you the progress the children are making. They started this area from scratch after coming up with their ideas about what the wanted the garden area to look like. They are absolutely loving this project and I can’t thank you enough.
The amount of nails I’ve had to purchase is crazy and every lunch time the students ask if they can continue developing the garden area. Last week the decided to saw Totara battens into thirds to edge one of the garden boxes they had made. They have had parents purchase extra vege mixes so they can continue to make MORE garden boxes!!
They’ve hand made signs and put them in and have created a fish pond area which they’ve added fish to… and the frog they found in the bean patch one morning.
Getting Going
Very excited to join in this challenge for our rural school children. One of our wonderful parents, Rach Gillespie, has been in touch after I passed the details on and she has organised this for us. Living rurally and having most of our school students playing sport in Whanganui most weekends the Springvale Garden Centre is usually the hub for Hunterville School parents & children after a early morning of weekend rugby. We thank you so much for providing such an awesome project.
