Juglans regia ‘Meyric’ – Walnut

A New Zealand discovered walnut variety. Large tree with a rounded head which is valued for its timber and edible nuts. Stately and handsome. Easily grown but needs space as it grows into an immense tree. Slow growing. Grows approximately 8m high x 6m wide in 10 years, but can ultimately grow to 20m high x 15m wide.

A fine, excellent quality nut, kernel is a good pale shiny colour. Smooth shell with a good, bright colour. Fruit is produced in late summer and is easy to crack and great for eating. Self-fertile, but better crops when planted with another walnut variety.

Full sun in well drained, fertile soil. Drought tolerant. Deciduous and hardy to frosts. Very tolerant of wind once established.
