Tea – Camellia Sinensis
$21.99
Camellia sinensis (Tea Plant)
Evergreen shrub with glossy, dark green leaves. Small, fragrant, single, white flowers with yellow stamens in autumn. Attractive plant, ideal for hedging as well as harvesting for tea leaves. Grows approximately 2m high x 1.5m wide.
Spring growth produces the highest quality, tender leaves for tea. Summer and autumn harvests are still abundant but less delicate. Harvest the first two leaves with bud. Follow a wilting, crushing, fermenting and drying process to use the tea leaves.
Full to part sun in moist but well drained soil. Prefers an acidic soil. Protect from winds and shelter from frosts. Mulch well with compost and feed with a Citrus and Fruit fertiliser in spring. Prune regularly to encourage repeating shoots for harvest.
