Prunus serrulata ‘Shirotae’ (Mount Fuji Cherry)
Strong-growing, wide-spreading, flat-top cherry with tiered, horizontal branches. Grows as wide as its height – approximately 5 x 5m. Large, fragrant, pure-white, semi-double flowers from white buds that are sometimes tinged with pink. Flowers mid October-November. Serrated, green leaves turn yellow, red, and orange in autumn. A superb shade tree.
Plant in full sun. Flowering Cherries are generally hardy but should be planted in a sheltered site to prolong the flowering period. Don’t allow them to dry out during hot dry periods. Stake well until established. Prune after flowering.
Grafted at a 1.5m standard. This means the plant has a 1.5m tall trunk before it begins branching out.
