Pineapple Queen
$131.99
Ananas comosus (Queen Pineapple)
A smaller pineapple than others, but the best eating variety in NZ. Bright, golden-yellow flesh with crisp texture and sweet flavour. Little to no tough core. One of the more disease and cold resistant varieties.
Pineapple plants will not grow roots in winter, so if you notice this in your plant, simply keep the plant supported and packed securely into the soil. As temperatures increase, roots will form. Take care around the small, sharp hooks that line the leaves. The main plant will die after fruit has been produced, however it should produce other ‘pups’ around the base of the plant to replace it. These can be separated. Grows approximately 1.5m tall x 1m wide.
Grows best in a greenhouse where kept warm year-round. Can be grown outdoors in a sunny, sheltered position protected from frosts. Cover with frost cloth in the winter. Avoid overhead watering and try to water only at the base of the plant. Prefers a slightly acidic soil which is kept well drained but consistently moist while fruit is developing.
