Small, native, conifer tree with crowded, glaucous-green foliage made up of phylloclases (flattened stems), acting as leaves. A very interesting and distinctive tree with whorled branches and a symmetrical habit. Nut-like, black seeds. Grows approximately 5m high x 2m wide in 10 years.
Prefers a part-shade position in evenly moist, well drained soil. Suits damp sites but not waterlogged soils. Tolerates wind and very harsh frosts. Prefers some shelter until established.
