Pear Garden Belle

$66.99

Pyrus communis ‘Packham’s Triumph’ (European Pear)

The first truly dwarf pear variety available in New Zealand, but performs brilliantly! Produces good crops of large fruit with green, mildy russeted skin. Deliciously sweet-flavoured fruit with smooth, soft flesh texture. Ripens in mid summer and stores well. Harvest February.

Cross-pollinates with another Pear or Nashi variety. Pear trees are excellent for espalier training. An attractive, upright tree with white spring blossoms, glossy summer foliage, turning to golden-orange autumn tones. Grows approximately 2.5-3m high x 2m wide in 10 years.

Requires a full sun position for best fruit development. Pears are deep rooted and will grow in most soil types. Tolerant of wet soils in the summer, though not in winter. Grows well in cooler areas with mild summers. Shelter from wind and protect new growth from spring frosts.
