Carica quercifolia

Highly ornamental in your sub-tropical gardens. Even in winter this deciduous plant is dramatic with its trunks that look like dinosaur legs.

Quick growing, attractive, spreading tree to 4m. Large oak-like leaves. Delicate green flowers appear in summer followed by golden, drop-shaped, sweet, orange striped fruit. Harvest in autumn when fruit turns orange. Best consumed fresh. Packed with vitamin A, B and iron.

Plant in spring in well drained soil, protected from wind and frost while young. Provide full sun. Hardy once established. Plant 2-3 plants for pollination. Fertilise in spring.
