A slender tree with graceful, spreading branches in a balanced, tiered habit. Sprays of small, round, dark green leaves coat this evergreen NZ native. Dark, almost black bark. Slow grower to approximately 6m high x 4m wide in 10 years.

Sun or shade. Prefers free draining, moisture retentive soils. Cold hardy and grows in warm climates with shelter from hot winds and adequate moisture. Otherwise very hardy to exposed sites.
