Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Variegata’ (Variegated Sweetgum)

‘Variegata’ is a conical, deciduous tree bearing glossy, mid-green leaves with five-pointed lobes, heavily striped and mottled yellow. The entire leaf turning shades of orange, purple, and red in autumn. Insignificant greenish-white flowers in spring are followed by spiny, green fruit ripening dark brown. Grows approximately 10m high x 5m wide in 10 years.

Performs best with full sun in moist, well drained soils. Tolerates most soil types but not waterlogged soils. Tolerant of wind, frost, and drought once established.
