Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Bloody Marvellous’
Also known as ‘Merveille Sanguine’ and ‘Raspberry Crush’
One of the darkest reds available in a hydrangea, with foliage that follows suit. Produces masses of blood-red, mophead flowers in ball-shaped clusters. Deep, dark green foliage which takes on a heavy maroon toning which intensifies through summer. Deciduous. Grows approximately 1.5m high x 1.5m wide.
Suits a position in full sun to part shade with some protection from harsh summer sun. Hydrangeas prefer a moist but well drained soil, benefiting from regular watering in summer and mulching. Avoid watering the flowers and leaves. Feed in spring for optimum results. Lime each year to keep the red colour. Remove spent flower heads and prune after flowering finishes.
