Feijoa Pounamu

$32.99

Feijoa sellowiana ‘Pounamu’

Small-medium sized, upright and spreading tree. Great for smaller, more contained spaces. Not as vigorous as other varieties but still a hardy and strong grower. Attractive, dark green leaves with silvery undersides and a mass of brilliant red, Pohutukawa-like flowers in summer. Feijoa are very adaptable and make excellent choices for screening and hedges. Grows approximately 3m high x 2m wide in 10 years unless pruned. Evergreen.

Good crops of medium-sized, round fruit with smooth, green skin. Sweet and juicy, rich pulp with a tang. Early season, April-May. Partially self fertile but fruit set will greatly increase and be more reliable when planted with a Feijoa of another variety to cross-pollinate. Brilliant source of vitamin C and dietary fibre.

Plant all year round in fertile, well drained soil with plenty of organic matter in a full sun position. Mulch after planting to support a healthy root system. Frost and drought tolerant. Performs best in average-drier soils with moisture during fruit development, but will tolerate periods of quite wet conditions. Fertilise in late winter.
