Dacrydium cupressinum – Rimu, NZ Red Pine

Evergreen, coniferous tree. Graceful, attractive, pyramidal form tree with drooping branches and a weeping habit. Foliage develops a bronze tone through winter, returning to green in spring. Very slow-growing tree which lasts in the home garden as a juvenile for fifty years. Grows approximately 6m high x 4m wide in 10 years.

Mature trees develop into a heavy canopy with a structured, rounded top crown. Retaining the drooping leaves. Great for timber. Ultimately growing 25m high x 10m wide.

Prefers cool, moist conditions. Prefers a partly shaded position, protected from harsh sun while young. Also requires protection from strong winds until established.
