Boysenberry Starlight
‘Starlight’ is a cross between a Blackberry and Raspberry. Vigorous, thornless variety. Produces high yields of mid-season, large, dark wine-red berries of excellent flavour. Harvest December to January when full colour is reached. Self-fertile. Grows approximately 2.5m high x 2m wide.
Devour straight from the plant or spoil yourself with a boysenberry ice cream using your own boysenberries. Try the traditional jam or pie. Boysenberries can also be frozen. High in vitamin C and A, potassium and calcium.
Plant in well drained soil rich in organic matter with a support frame to keep brambles off the ground. Mulch after planting to protect and support the healthy growth of the boysenberry’s shallow, fibrous root system. Provide full sun. Frost tolerant. Prune in winter when the plant is dormant. Fertilise early spring.
