Arbutus unedo (Irish Strawberry Tree)
Medium sized, evergreen tree with glossy foliage and a neat, rounded habit. Clusters of small, white flowers appear in autumn and winter, followed by orange-red, strawberry-like fruit. Fruits are edible and birds love them! Excellent screening plant, especially for the back of shrubberies and for exposed or cold sites. Grows approximately 4m high x 3m wide in 10 years.
Grows best in a sunny or party-shaded site with well drained, fertile soil. Tolerates dry conditions once established. Mulch well. Very hardy to adverse conditions including coastal, heat, and cold.
