Heritage variety. England’s most popular cooking apple. Firm, tart, acidic flesh yet sweet with a good flavour and plenty of juice. Medium to large sized fruit of distinctly conical shape. Skin is pale yellow with red cheeks when fully ripe. Harvest April-May. Keeps very well. Grows approximately 4m high x 3m wide unpruned.
Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot in free draining soil prepared with organic matter. Stake to support until established. Water frequently while young, during long, dry periods and while the fruit is developing. Frost tolerant while dormant but protect fresh buds from spring frosts.
