Phormium tenax (Harakeke, Swamp Flax)

A classic, NZ native plant. Large flax, with large, upright, deep grey-green leaves. Produces tall spires of red flowers in summer, beloved by native birds, particularly attractive to Tui. Excellent for wind shelter/land stabilisation. Will grow approximately 2.5m tall by 2m wide.

Versatile & tolerant of almost all conditions. Prefers full sun. Grows in swampy soils but can be tolerant of dry soils. Frost hardy and suitable for coastal conditions.
