Avocado Ettinger
$79.99
Persea americana – Avocado ‘Ettinger’
Medium-large, pear-shaped fruit. Smooth, thin, bright green skin. Dense, pale green flesh with a mild flavour and lower oil content than other varieties. Fruit size is from 250grms to 450grms.
Very vigorous and prolific bearer. Fruit matures 9-12 months from flowering depending on heat. Very long fruiting time from August through to November. ‘Ettinger’ avocados don’t ripen on the tree, which means you can have more control over a longer harvest window. B-type flowers; cross pollinate with Avocado ‘Hass’ or ‘Reed.’ Excellent choice of pollinator.
Tree forms a thick canopy with a more upright habit. Good for growing as a dense shade tree. Narrow, ovular, dark green leaves with wrinkled edges. Grows approximately 5m high x 4m wide in 10 years.
Grow in a full sun position with good, aerated, well drained soil. Avocado trees will not tolerate wet and compacted soils. Benefits from plenty of organic material and mulch. Fertilise regularly during spring and summer and water during dry periods. Tolerant of a light frost. ‘Zutano’ is one of the more cold-tolerant varieties. Support well and protect from wind while tree is young.
