NZ native evergreen, endemic to the North Island. Leafy, canopy tree with a very wide crown. Stout trunk with thick, spreading branches. Smooth, dark brown bark. Glossy, leathery, dark green, heavily veined leaves. Panicles of greenish flowers in spring and early summer. Wood pigeons adore the large, purple berries in autumn. Grows approximately 8m high x 6m wide in 10 years.
Full sun position. Keep moist and protect from frosts while young. Tolerant of light to medium frosts once established.
