Acer palmatum ‘Pixie’ (Japanese Maple)
A ‘witch’s broom’ form, selected from ‘Bloodgood’. Vigorous and stiffly-upright when young, becoming bushy and compact with maturity. An excellent maple which holds it’s colour very well and branches well as a young plant. Leaves are a vibrant, deep, rich red when young, pertly held and contrasting nicely against the rich, dark, black-red mature foliage. Autumn tones are showy, bright red shades. Grows approximately 2.5 metres tall in 10 years.
Suitable for a full sun to part shade position with protection from blistering afternoon sun. Perfect in sheltered spots, protect from hot, dry and coastal wind. Plant in fertile, moist, well drained soil.
